Lighting Effects in the Aquarium

The lighting equipment is primarily important for the plants and for the fish in an aquarium. However, it is relatively unimportant for most fish species whether the light in the aquarium is strong or weak. On the other hand, plants need light to grow and to produce vital oxygen for the fish. Unfortunately, the regular home lighting from the sun, moon or lamps is not enough for the plants. Therefore, artificial lighting is essential.
Those who want to improve the appearance of their aquariums can also add standard fluorescent tubes or other types of lighting. Underwater spots on the bottom or the side are a really interesting alternative as they can provide very interesting and unusual effects. The aquarium lighting is adjusted to the natural conditions even if the water spots are not very intense.

Pay attention to the natural conditions

The underwater spots should be mounted above the water surface as the light penetrates in the water from top to bottom. The fish will quickly lose their orientation if the spots are buried in the ground or if they are attached to the side walls. The lack of focus causes stress and endangers the health of the fish in the aquarium.

Underwater lighting and laser equipment are also becoming more and more fashionable. These effects put the aquarium in a very different light and emphasize the colorful fish. But one should avoid flashing or rotating light effects. These are unnatural and increase the level of stress the fish are exposed to.

Those who want to give up all "new modern" methods completely and want to experience the glitz and the full colors of the aquarium inhabitants can use fluorescent lights with different wavelengths.

These cover a much wider range of colors than the usual fluorescent tubes. Those who do not exactly possess an extended color palette should ask for the RA value in aquarium stores. It is generally said that the higher the RA value, the better is the reproduction of color. The first digits in the coding of the lamps indicate the RA value. Here is an example: 9xx is level 1a, 8xx is level 1b, 7xx is level 2 and so on. However, only levels 1-3 are suitable for aquariums.
